EDUCATION IN CHAD: INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY TO BOLSTER ITS QUALITY
TJ Fossmeyer completed his Global Capstone Scholar project in the winter of 2021 during his senior year. His interest in this topic developed through the film "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" where a young boy's life completely changed due to the implementation of increased technological capabilities in his community. After recalling his personal experience, he knew that enhanced technology can truly benefit students and their education; particularly in Chad where 4% of all students have reliable access to technology. Through in-depth research, he was able to identify the key barriers that prevent widespread access to technology in the classroom, the importance of it upon one's education in Chad, and the progress that has been made towards increased access. Seeking the advice of individuals in Chad, TJ has created a website database with key resources towards addressing the overall lack of access in Chad along with a video explaining how to effectively contact people/organizations related to the issue. He intends to raise awareness on the lack of access and educate the people of Chad on how to increase their access through effective communication and community advocacy.
