Should you encounter any hardware or systems problems with your devices, only district personnel are permitted to complete work on devices. The district will not reimburse for any repairs or purchases related to staff devices. Should you encounter an issue with your device during the summer, please contact either Doug Leitch (dleitch@deltaschools.ca), or Curtis Bromley (cbromley@deltaschools.ca). During the school year, please inform your office staff who will place a work order.
These are only provided at the time the laptop is issued by either IT or the school. Any charge block, cord or video adapter that is lost, taken, or damaged is the responsibility of staff or school to replace.
During the 2023 2024 school year repairs to devices was close to $20,000. In most cases the damage was a result of liquid spills or cracked screens. To help prevent these types of accidents remember:
Liquids and technology do not mix well. Please keep beverages away from laptops.
Only pick up your laptop when it is fully closed.
Before closing the laptop, please ensure there are no papers, pen tips, paperclips or other debris on the keyboard or trapped in the hinge. The smallest item can cause the screen to crack.
Avoid the use of silicon keyboard covers as they can trap heat and give off moisture
Most teachers spend many hours creating documents and resources. All of this can be lost if your device is damaged. To help protect your data:
Copy files to an external storage devices that is encrypted
If using a Mac, use Time Machine
Sync files saved on your computer to Onedrive
Copy any files that do not contain student's personal or confidential information to Google My Drive
Best practice is to power down computers at the end of each day (not only put to sleep). Not powering down can result in a host of problems including:
Damaged drives, resulting in total loss of data
Unsuccessful updates
Overheating
Please ensure devices are always secured in your travels and at home. Should a device remain at school over the summer, please ensure the device is placed in a secure location (locked file cabinet, desk or cupboard).
District devices are intended solely for the use of staff to which they are assigned, and should not be used by others, including family.
Maintain a strong password to unlock your computer.
Store files in OneDrive
Please unplug all mobile labs (carts) before leaving for the summer.
If Google Classroom has been used, best practice is to remove students at the end of the school's year, and then archive the class. Please see Google Classroom - Year End Best Practices.
