Classroom is designed to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.
Students can keep track of what’s due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn’t completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom.
Google has created this Respomd to a Question in Google Classroom guide that will get students up and running in minutes. This lesson equips students with the essentials of logging in, joining a class, and how to participate in discussions.
Google Classroom is a powerful organization and communication tool. Before making use of the tool please review these best practice recommendations:
Give your Classroom a name that is both unique and identifiable
We recommend that the commenting feature in Google classroom not be turned on until teachers are able to ensure its appropriate use. This is a good opportunity to integrate some lessons around digital citizenship.
If comments are turned on, we recommend that they be turned off during school breaks (Christmas, Spring)
At the end of the year students should be removed and the classroom archived.
It is best to start with a fresh and new Google Classroom each year, rather than copying. Posts from previous classrooms can still be used.
In Drive, a Classroom folder will be created. This folder contains all classrooms created, assignments, student submissions and more. We recommend that this folder NOT be modified in any way. Modifying the folder or any of its contents can corrupt the Classroom.
If leaving the district but would like to allow use of the classroom after your departure, please transfer ownership to another teacher.
