PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
What a wonderful week we have had celebrating Black History Month! We have so many events and learning experiences planned for our Trailblazers and we look forward to sharing our experiences with you! Thank you to Ms. Hailey and the BHM committee for helping to kick us off last week during Sisterhood Circle and for putting together the program of events.
This week, during National Counselor Appreciation Week, I want to give a huge shout out to our counselors, Ms. Patterson and Mrs. Cabrera. These two fierce females have shown up each day with optimism and work relentlessly to ensure that our girls participate in meaningful interactions and experiences that focus on their mental health. We thank them both for being amazing leaders and positive role models for our girls. Thank you, ladies!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! In an effort to streamline the dismissal change procedure and lessen wait times when calling the front office, parents will be asked to submit dismissal changes via Google Form beginning January 5. The form will be closed daily at 3pm. Parents needing to make an emergency change after this time should call the office at 972-749-4300.
WE NEED FEEDBACK FROM EVERYONE!!
Do you have a sibling applying to Solar for the 22-23 school year? Are you considering a magnet school for the 22-23 school year? Do you have any ideas for improving our school? We need your help! The grade level with the most responses to this survey will have a celebration! CLICK HERE
Our school counselors advocate for the mental health needs of all students by offering Shine Time instruction that enhances awareness of our Solar Six, advisement addressing academic and career exploration and social/emotional development. We support students with reporting bullying, suicidal threats, attendance, and academic concerns. We listen to student, teacher, and parent concerns about academic, emotional or social problems. We help students process their problems and plan goals and action while working on improving learning conditions. We mediate conflict and improve relationships between student/teacher, student/parent and parent/teacher. We also facilitate prevention programs and guidance lessons for all of our PK-7 classes. Together we offer short-term counseling interventions; and referrals to community resources for long-term support. When our Solar community needs support, there are many avenues that we can help achieve our personal success and overall well-being.
