A MESSAGE FROM

Principal  Santos

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

All academic clubs for 3rd-7th grade will begin the first week of October. We still have spots available in a few of the clubs. If you have any questions about clubs or your child's placement in a club, email our Student Activities Coordinator, Bethany Seagroves - bseagroves@dallasisd.org

KEEP US UPDATED WITH ATTENDANCE

To improve contact tracing - If you daughter is staying home due to suspected COVID symptoms, please contact Nurse Arteaga as soon as possible.

While it is always important to stay in touch with your child's teacher - unless a parent contacts the nurse directly to confirm the quarantine/isolation and receive official documentation on the number of days and circumstances under which your daughter is able to return to school - the attendance office will not be able to code your child as quarantined/isolated.  Teachers will ONLY provide assignments/office support hours to students that are coded as quarantined/isolated for as many days as determined by the school nurse. Students who are quarantined/isolated will be coded as Q and this will not count against their attendance.

If your child is ever absent for more than one day due to circumstances other than covid, it is important that you contact your child's teacher. A quick email helps save us time so that we are able to account for all students each day. Please note that in this case, students will be counted absent and school work will NOT be provided.

We appreciate your help with this!

CELEBRATING HERITAGE & ESPERANZA

Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova kicked off the Hispanic Heritage Month with the theme Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope.

During this month, Dallas ISD —where about 70 percent of students are Hispanic—will provide a series of highly engaging programs and activities centered around the celebration, empowerment, remembrance, and appreciation of our Hispanic community's cultural heritages, history and contributions. For more information about Hispanic Heritage Month activities, visit: www.dallasisd.org/hispanicheritagemonth

NTX GIVING DAY

North Texas Giving Day is this week. If you are able, please visit https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/friends-of-solar-prep to contribute to our campus needs this year. Every dollar counts towards our $75,000 goal!

SOLAR UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR

COVID SAFETY

Following updated guidance from the Texas Education Agency, Dallas ISD is notifying all teachers, staff and families of all students in a classroom if someone in the classroom tests positive for COVID-19. The district will also begin also notifying all teachers, staff and families of all students in an extracurricular activity or after-school program if someone from that activity or program tests positive for COVID-19.

The district is primarily using the School Messenger automated call out system to notify families. Dallas ISD strongly encourages parents to make sure they have their current phone number and email in the system to receive these notifications. Families can contact the front office if they need to update their contact information in their student’s file.

We are thankful to be able to provide information to our families for better peace of mind. For more information on  COVID safety - read our UPDATED COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS  or visit the district COVID safety page

KEY PRIORITIES:

Culture and Communication

Our goal is to clearly communicate the systems that reinforce the high-expectations and cohesive culture for students, parents, and staff. This focus on communication, data informed decision-making and consistency will elevate our staff and student culture to build the habits of mind and heart. These habits enable effective instruction, love of learning and excellence.

Project and Performance-Based Learning

Students will participate in meaningful and relevant learning experiences through the implementation of high quality project based learning across the campus. Students will make connections to the content they are learning. Instruction will focus on real-world situations with an emphasis on student agency, collaboration and students effectively communicating their ideas.

Math-Positive Culture

Math is for EVERYONE. A positive math culture will require that math is integrated across curriculum and contents throughout the school. We will work to improve campus-wide math mindsets, build fluency, and create a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, problem solving and ways to manipulate numbers.

Blended Learning Practices

A deeper focus on the highest leverage differentiated learning  systems that increase student achievement across the campus. Through blended-learning students receive instruction specific to their learning needs. The purpose, best practices and progress of our  blended learning systems will be consistently to all stakeholders involved.
