A great big thank you to each parent and learner who took time to participate in the Focus Group Survey and/or sessions! It was great to talk to learners every day for a week!
Just so you know, here are the top three takeaways about the CPDLF experience. Additionally, a standout request from learners was a desire for more hobby-based school clubs (such as music, outdoors, debate, and board games).
1. Flexibility & Balanced Schedules
Families highly value flexible due dates because they significantly reduce student stress. When it comes to daily routines, both learners and parents strongly prefer a balance of live teacher sessions and independent work time.
2. Supportive & Engaging Staff
Teachers are consistently praised for being caring, personable, and understanding of student anxiety. Families love when teachers use interactive games (like Kahoot) to make learning fun, and they highly appreciate the extra help offered during open office hours.
3. Opportunities for Improvement
Curriculum: Both groups want less reliance on digital platforms like IXL, and parents specifically requested bringing back physical workbooks as a reference tool.
Scheduling: Families desire more consistent, standardized daily class times to prevent overlapping or scattered schedules.
Multi-Disciplinary Projects: While there is interest in the proposed Multi-Disciplinary (MD) projects, some parents suggest breaking these larger projects down into smaller, clear steps so they don't overwhelm students.

What is a School Improvement Plan?
Because CPDLF did not meet state targets for graduation rates and proficiency in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) on state exams, we are designated as a Comprehensive School Improvement (CSI) school. To improve, we are required to follow a formal plan with specific "stretch goals" that we monitor every month to ensure our students get the support they need to succeed.

This table shows our specific targets versus the actual results achieved by our students.
Quick Guide for Parents
Growth vs. Proficiency: Growth tracks your child’s personal improvement from their own starting point. Proficiency tracks if they have reached the specific level expected for their grade.
Self-Regard: While the goal was not met the way it was written, 62% of learners scored high in confidence and self-worth - with no more room for them to grow on the scale!
The Quarter 3 Math Win: We hit a major milestone in Math Growth! Over 70% of our students showed significant personal progress since January.
Why are some targets "Not Met"? Our School Improvement Plan uses very high "stretch" goals. Even when a target is not met, the data helps our teachers know exactly where to provide extra help in the coming weeks.

We'd like to plan another summer trip abroad for CPDLF Learners and their families. We're just in the early stages of planning, so there are no details on dates or locations yet. At this time, we'd like to collect information on how many people might be interested in traveling with us. Please fill out this survey to register interest.
The survey is not a commitment: it's more of a "yes, I might be interested!"
When we know how many people would be interested and when they'd like to travel, we can then propose dates, destinations, and information on pricing so that families can start to budget for this trip.
We had an absolute blast on our 2024 trip to the United Kingdom and we're looking forward to the possibility of taking CPDLF abroad again!
We know the end of the year is rapidly approaching. Encourage your learner to stay on task and finish the year strong!
