We’re looking forward to celebrating the commencement of our Class of 2026! You may join us tonight at 7:00 PM at the old H&M location near the Altoona Learning Center. The address is:
Logan Valley Mall, 5580 Goods Lane, Altoona, PA 16602
Be sure to leave plenty of time to walk from the parking lot to that old H&M storefront inside.
We will be live-streaming the ceremony via Zoom. A link will be provided to seniors on Wednesday to share with extended family. If you would like to attend the graduation ceremony via Zoom, the Zoom link can be found on the School Calendar in the 2026 CPDLF Graduation Ceremony calendar invite.

Title 1 Stakeholder Meeting
Title 1 Stakeholder Meeting
Please join us on June 15th from 3:00-4:00 PM for our Title 1 Stakeholder Meeting. This is our time to share information about how federal funds are used to boost student achievement. You’ll get a reflection of this year’s School Improvement Plan and get the opportunity to share your feedback on our 26-27 School Improvement Goals and how we’re planning to spend our Federal Program dollars. This is an important way to be involved in shaping our school.

Thank you for your participation in the Keystone testing. You’ll see the breakdown of how our learners showed up based on the year and subject. We are so proud to announce that we saw an increase in participation for all three subjects!
We know that testing is a departure from your regular schedule, so we want to extend our deepest appreciation for all the Learner Coaches who supported their learners during this time.

Did you know citizenship is about much more than voting? Does your learner know that?
At CPDLF, we believe strong communities are built by people who show up, listen, participate, and work to make things better. That's why our Portrait of a Graduate includes Civic Traits that help learners become thoughtful, engaged members of society.
A CPDLF graduate:
• Contributes to the community
• Engages thoughtfully in democracy
• Listens to understand
• Influences positive change
These traits help learners recognize that they have both a voice and a responsibility. Whether they are volunteering in their community, participating in local government, serving on a committee, advocating for a cause they believe in, or simply helping a neighbor, they learn that positive change often begins with ordinary people taking action.
Being an engaged citizen also means learning to listen. In today's world, learners are exposed to a wide variety of opinions and perspectives. The ability to listen to understand—not simply to respond—is a valuable skill that helps build stronger relationships, healthier communities, and more productive conversations.
Thoughtful participation in democracy extends beyond elections. It includes staying informed, asking questions, considering different viewpoints, and understanding how decisions impact others. These skills help learners become confident, responsible adults who can thoughtfully navigate an increasingly complex world.
This is one reason CPDLF provides opportunities for learners to develop leadership skills, engage with their communities, collaborate with others, and explore issues that matter to them. We want our graduates to understand that they can make a difference—whether that difference is felt in their family, their workplace, their neighborhood, or on a much larger scale.
The Portrait of a Graduate helps guide those decisions. It reminds us that success is not only about personal achievement, but also about how we contribute to the world around us. Our goal is to help learners become informed, compassionate citizens who are prepared to lead positive change wherever life takes them.
Summer Engagement Read Alouds
Summer Engagement Read Alouds
Another fun summer program for learners is our Summer Engagement Read Alouds. This summer, Principal Yahner is hosting a weekly read-aloud of the inspiring book, “Chop Wood Carry Water: How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great,” by Joshua Medcalf.
This engaging story follows a young man named John who travels to Japan to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a samurai warrior. Expecting epic training sessions and instant greatness, John is surprised when his mentor gives him seemingly mundane, everyday tasks: chopping wood and carrying water.
Through John’s journey, the book teaches powerful lessons about patience, building mental toughness, and focusing on the daily grind rather than just the end goal. It is a fantastic, easy-to-understand story for all ages that changes how we look at success, failure, and personal growth.
Be sure to join us starting on June 10! All members of the CPDLF school community are welcome to attend.

You’re officially on summer break! We’re looking forward to seeing you again this August. In the meantime, we hope you keep your learner engaged with the world around them over the next couple of weeks.
If you’re looking for things to do, we suggest you visit your local library for lists of free events and activities.
You may also consider searching for parks near you for playgrounds, walks/hikes, and other fun activities.

Don’t forget: we're changing the pacing of this newsletter for the summer. We will continue this Parent Update weekly for one more week. After that point, we'll move to a biweekly update starting on June 26, 2026. We'll resume weekly updates at the start of the new school year.
