Did you know preparing learners for the future means helping them make wise decisions long before they enter the workforce?

At CPDLF, we believe success isn't measured only by what learners know—it's also shaped by how they approach opportunities, solve problems, and take responsibility for their future. That's why our Portrait of a Graduate includes Economic Traits that prepare learners to thrive in college, careers, and everyday life.

A CPDLF graduate:
• Finds and utilizes resources effectively
• Initiates and leads efforts independently
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic
• Makes informed decisions

Successful people know they don't have to have all the answers—they know how to find them. Whether locating reliable information, seeking guidance from a mentor, or identifying the right tools for the task, resourcefulness helps learners solve problems with confidence and independence.

Leadership often begins with initiative. Rather than waiting for someone else to act, learners who take ownership of opportunities are prepared to start projects, overcome challenges, and inspire others to work toward a common goal. These habits help them become valuable contributors in school, the workplace, and their communities.

A strong work ethic is equally important. Learning to be dependable, manage responsibilities, and give their best effort builds habits that serve graduates throughout their lives. Success is rarely the result of talent alone—it grows from consistency, perseverance, and a commitment to doing quality work.

Finally, informed decision-making empowers learners to navigate an increasingly complex world. Every day, they'll make choices about education, careers, finances, relationships, and personal goals. By learning to gather information, evaluate options, and think through consequences, they build the confidence to make thoughtful decisions that support long-term success.

The Portrait of a Graduate helps guide every decision we make because we want learners to graduate with more than academic knowledge. We want them to leave CPDLF as resourceful, hardworking, self-directed individuals who are prepared to seize opportunities, overcome challenges, and build meaningful, successful lives.
