On January 26 and 27, the theater department performed their musical, “Once Upon a Mattress”. A musical comedy that tells a tale of the Princess and the Pea.

The cast of the show had been diligently working on the play for months after school.

“We auditioned for the show in October and started working on some dances as well, but got into it full-time working on the play after we finished our last show,” Adrianna Loafman who portrayed Queen Aggravain said. “In November we started  rehearsals, so for about 3 months we have been working on the show.”

These actors prepare for the play, with dedication and heart, to ensure the entertainment of the audience.

“I prepare for a show by running over my songs, ensuring I’m properly warmed up, and getting into character,” Savannah Bradbury who portrayed Princess Winnifred said.

The actors aren’t the only ones who work hard getting the show ready but also the stage crew.

“It takes a lot of work to prepare for a show with hours of choreography, blocking, singing, memorizing lines, getting the set ready, and costumes for showtime. In the end, it’s nice to look back on,” assistant stage manager Isadora de Faria said.

After the shows the crew and cast go through all different types of emotions.

“I always feel relieved after shows, it can be very stressful at times, but it’s still a happy memory for me,” stage manager Skyler ‘Venus’ Roberts said.

The cast goes through hours of hard work to produce their end product, the musical that they have been spending months working on.

“After the first few shows, I’m usually exhausted, musicals are a lot of hard work! But after the last performance, it’s very bittersweet, especially this year because it is my last musical,” Bradbury said.

The music picked out for the play is what really ties the production together.

“What I’m most excited about in this show is the music. All of the songs are so catchy and stuck in all of our heads 24/7. I didn’t know a lot about the show beforehand, and it’s become one of my favorites,” Loafman said.

An actor’s performance isn’t just to the audience, but also to family and friends.

“I am most excited to perform my very best for my friends and family and to make unforgettable memories,” Sofia Berry portrayed The Jester said.

After hours of rehearsals and days of preparations January 27 was the grand finale of the production.

“I’m just really excited for everyone to see the show!! Everyone has been working so hard and we have some really fun numbers that are worth the watch,” Faria said.
