Faithful To The Crown

Homecoming King and Queen is one of the most exciting parts out of the entire homecoming week. This year's king and queen were Carlos Hernandez and Breniyah Maxey. Being crowned is an honor amongst the entire student body.

“Well ever since freshman year I've always seen my friends running for duke and duchess, and I know a lot of people and I’ve always been nice since freshman year. So I’ve always just said I’m waiting for my senior year, I’m waiting for my senior year,” Carlos Hernandez said.

The decision on running for homecoming king has been a long awaited thought for Carlos “CJ” Hernandez.

“I was really really nervous, like so nervous my stomach has been hurting all day” Breniyah Maxey said.

Before the announcement of the king and queen winners both Maxey and Hernandez were very nervous.

“I campaigned myself a bit as the Mr. Spirit Man, because ever since freshman year I've always just loved homecoming week,” Hernandez said.

CJ said seeing everyone's school spirit is his favorite part of the entire homecoming week.

“My friends helped me out a lot they are so good to me, yeah I think I won because of them,” Maxey said.

Breniyah said initially she wasn't going to run but her friends wanted her to, so once they started posting her they convinced her to run.

“Freshman me would be like wow you did it for real I've seen since freshman year all these people running and trying to win homecoming king, so me doing it is just so surreal,” Hernandez said.

CJ said he had a good feeling about winning but “it was gonna be close” because of the tough competition.

“I’m really happy that I was able to get out of my shell and do things that I didn't think I would be able to do freshman year,” Maxey said.

Breniyah said she used to be very shy and looking back as a freshman she is really impressed with herself.

“I was letting people know early to nominate me, and just spreading the word out to vote for me helped me out a lot,” Hernandez said.

As the days were getting closer to voting for homecoming king and queen both CJ and Breniyah had help from their friends.

“When all of my friends ran up to me and gave me hugs, it made me so happy. It was so surreal,” Maxey said.

Having friends right by her side supporting her and cheering for her as she was crowned homecoming queen was a highlight and memorable moment for her.

“I always wanted to go all out and show my school spirit because I'm from Conroe. Conroe is my city and I love it,” Hernandez said.
