Russian-Ukrainian War

With the war entering its fifth week, Ukraine is trying to gain back the northeast and Russia is still making attacks on historic landmarks. Russia invading Ukraine has made more than 2 million people flee, half of those being children. But not all people want this war, Russian activists have been speaking out on this “special military operation”. Apartment doors have been labeled a traitor with graffiti.


Other examples are even more extreme. In one case, a leading Russian journalist discovered a pig's head wearing a wig on his doorstep with an anti-Semitic sticker stuck to his door.


Alexei Venediktov, the long-time editor of radio station Ekho of Moscow before it stopped broadcasting due to increased Russian censorship, posted photos of the vandalism, pointing out the irony of an anti-Semitic attack happening in the "country that defeated fascism".


This vandalism is a sign of the increasingly intimidating atmosphere in Russia for those people who publicly express their opposition to the war in Ukraine.


Russia’s leader Putin is telling his citizens one thing about his reasons for invading Ukraine but he is preaching differently to the rest of the world according to BBC sources.


Ukraine has yet to have a break from the Russians, they are constantly getting attacked. This past weekend at least 5 people have been injured when at least two missiles struck the city Livi.


The Ukrainian people have had to change their lives due to the war. Being a refugee has done financial and emotional damage, these people have escaped but are still trying to make a living. A London university helping bring refugees to Britain. It is understood that about 20 other universities have expressed interest in getting involved. With president Biden giving 1 billion in security assistance for Ukraine and job sites being dedicated to giving Ukrainian people jobs. It is apparent that nobody wants this war to continue. 


 On March 28th Ukraine declared that the citizens curfew will begin an hour later and end an hour earlier now making the curfew 9:00p.m local to 6:00a.m.


Largest conventional army attack on European soil since World War I with $565 Billion in property damage. Displacing about 10 million people, surrounding countries are taking in Ukrainians. 


According to CNN, Ukraine’s military intelligence head said Russian President Vladimir Putin could be looking to carve Ukraine in two like North and South Korea. As the strikes continue Russia has already gained most of the ground in the south in the vicinity of Mariupol. 


According to the New York Post, President Biden is sending soldiers to help train Ukrainian troops. After clarifying that none of the U.S. troops would be sent to the Ukraine, he stated that he has talked to soldiers in Ukraine and has helped provide 2 billion in military aid.
