AVID Goes to College

On Wednesday, September 20, AVID took their seniors to the university known and loved by people all across Texas, Texas A&M University. The main campus for A&M University is in the fitting city of College Station is one of the best known colleges across the nation, so it made sense for AVID to take their seniors to the campus for a visit.

Although getting a day away from school to go visit a college campus sounds fun, which it is, that isn’t the only reason our AVID seniors went to A&M.

We want our kids to get hands-on experience with each college, AVID sponsor Mrs. Deavours said,So the purpose of the college campus visits is so that every student can get to envision themselves at the campus, learn about what college is actually like in a real and true setting.

One of the most interesting parts of A&M is their mascot, Reveille. Reveille is one of the few college mascots that are in fact not a person in a specially made costume. Our AVID students were lucky enough to run into Reveille on their guided tour.

Most interesting part of the trip was when we got to meet Reveille, the mascot for A&M, it’s pretty cool,” AVID Senior Noe Avalos said. We saw it from far away and the tour guide was like “Oh my god” like she just stopped talking and was like “Oh my god everyone look” and we all turned around and looked, and she was just walking with I think a Senior Cadet.

With spending a day at A&M, having a tour of the campus, and having an informational Q&A with A&M students and staff, we wonder; would any of the AVID seniors have gone to A&M if given a full ride scholarship.

Yeah 100 percent,” AVID Senior Areli Arias said. It’s a really great school, their academics are top tier, they do a lot of research. I love how they’re so focused on that aspect of their education.
