Foreign Exchange students share their experiences at CHS
Rebbeca Abbracciavento
Rebbeca is a foreign exchange student that recently came to the United States from Italy. Italy has a very unique and different way of doing things, especially when it comes to schooling.
“We do not move every period, we have the same class for the whole high school," Rebecca said. “So we have the same classmates for the whole day.”
The U.S. and Italy are so different, and the way people greet one another was a big adjustment to Rebecca.
“When we meet a person for the first time we hug, and when we know each other, we kiss the cheeks.”
Rebecca came to the U.S. by herself so she has a host family and so far she really likes being here.
“I have a host family so my Italian family is not here."
Though only here for nine months, she hopes to make the most out of her experience and visit as many "American sites" as possible.
Nun Pun
Nun Pun is another foreign exchange student who came from Thailand. Their greeting is different than Americans as well. You greet each other by putting your hands together which means "hello."
“I like my country because if you don’t know each other but you need help they will help each other.”
Nun Pun likes being in the U.S. and came over to practice her English skills.
“Actually I came over here because I wanted to practice my English skills and in Thailand people who speak English it’s good and it would be good for us.”
Nun Pun's favorite thing about being over here so far is the people.
“I like people here because they are friendly. They can say hi to each other and not even know each other.”
During her time here Nun Pun hopes to learn more interesting things about American culture while also teaching others about her culture as well.
