October 30-Nov 3

Wow what a change in weather! 19 degrees on Saturday and as I sit here today typing, the snow is falling outside! With that said please make sure to send some hats/mitts and warm coats. It's a good idea to have some extra socks packed incase feet get wet outside. Our classroom can also get chilly so a good idea to have a sweater. It will be a cold Halloween night.

Tomorrow being Halloween, students are allowed to wear their costumes to school. Please leave any accessories at home so that there is not a panic when children get home if something is left at school. No masks allowed.

On Wednesday Nov 1st we will have a PJ Day. Students can wear their pj's to school. A good way to celebrate the day after Halloween!

On Thursday Nov 2nd will be our Teddy Bear Clinic. Students can bring a teddy or baby doll to the clinic.

Literacy: In Fundations, we will work on letters d and s. These letters are part of the plane line round letters. They both start at the plane line.  Continue to practice the previous letters taught along with the new ones. This week we will also work on the word "go." Trick words are all around us. See if your children can find the trick words on signs when you're driving, shopping, waiting at an appointment etc. The words we have studied so far are the, can, see, go.

Math: We will continue to work on games to solidify our knowledge of numbers to 5.

Science: Throughout the year we will be discussing the Five Senses as our science curriculum. Today was a great day to put that to use. At the end of the day we went out in the fresh snow to observe with our Five Senses. We looked, listened, touched and even tasted the flakes on our tongues. When children are trying a new food, or experience try using some of these questions to get them thinking about the experience. What does it smell like? How does it taste? How does it feel? What do you hear? Describe what you see?

Students are adding red, yellow and green apples to their trees using a spinner to determine the number for each colour.

Independent reading time. A chance to look at the books in our classroom library. Some students are reading short books. Some are telling the story by looking at the pictures and some are starting to notice trick words and some of the letters we have learned in Fundations.

The first picture is students choosing stickers and writing the first sound of the Halloween picture.

The next three are pictures of our witches kitchen. Students are making a witches brew from the directions posted on the wall.

A few more Halloween activities.
