Wow! It's a cold one out there today. The rest of the week looks promising though for warmer weather. With the warmer weather coming make sure that students have a change of clothes including socks.
This week we are finishing up our Families Unit. We are talking about family traditions and celebrations. We are sending home a time line to fill out with your child of some significant celebrations or events in their lives. They can either draw a picture to go with it or add a picture.
We got a few pictures of homes and families last week but we'd really like to get everyones so we can create a family display in our dramatic play area. Feel free to send on email and I will print them.
Literacy: In Fundations, we will continue on with Unit 3. We will be learning to read and write CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant). We will also be working on retelling the events, setting, main characters, problem and solution in a short story. This week we will begin learning the trick words. We have already introduced some of these words earlier in the year so they will be a review for the students. This weeks words are "and" and "are".
In writing, we are creating a book about our families. Students are working on creating a sentence using an uppercase letter at the beginning of the sentence. Leaving finger spaces between words and adding punctuation at the end.
Math: In math, we are continuing to explore numbers to 10. We will also work on counting on from a given number and stating the number that comes before and after a given number. We have begun to explore measurement. I'm sending home a snake that they made in class they can use it to find things that are shorter or longer.
Interviews: Thank you to everyone who signed up for interviews. If you happen to have missed the cut off please send me an email and we can schedule something in. I always look forward to showing the progress the children have made. If something comes up and you can't make your scheduled appointment please let me know and we can reschedule.
Book Fair: We will be attending the Bookfair on Tuesday at 9:30 am. Please send money in an envelope or ziplock bag with your child's name and the amount inside the bag. Sometimes children set down their bags and it makes it difficult to know who they belong to. I am sending home a flyer today. If you circle something we will try our best to find it.
Have a great week!
