Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a great holiday. It was nice to have a white Christmas! I hope everyone had a chance to relax and connect with family and friends. I had a chance to recharge and am excited to be back in the classroom with the children tomorrow.
I love this time of the year in Kindergarten. We will begin to put together what we know about letters and sounds to begin reading! For the next week we will be reviewing all the letters. By the end of the week we will be testing and then moving on next week to identifying and matching the uppercase letters. I will be in contact if your child will be receiving tier 2 support. For homework this week take some time to review printing all of the letters. Pick 3-5 letters a night to practice printing. I will be beginning testing on Wednesday. I will be sending home a note to explain our reading homework within the next week or so. Keep an eye out in the homework folder.
Numeracy:
This month we will begin diving deeper into numbers 6-10. We will practice printing these numbers, counting groups of objects and looking at all the ways we can make a number. For example: 6 can be 1 and 5 or, 2 and 4 and so on.
Reminder that we will be going out in all kinds of weather down to -20 degrees. Please make sure that children are dressed for the weather. Please keep an extra pair of clothing in their bag right down to underwear and socks. Also extra mitts/gloves would be helpful as sometimes the first pair gets wet at little recess and there's not enough drying time in between.
Important dates:
Our January hot lunch is now up and will close on Sunday at 9pm for the week of January 5-9.
The School Oral Health Preventative Program will start on January 5th. Please take a few minutes to fill out the consent form. https://healthpei.ca/dentalconse
Have a great week
