Week of September 15- 19th
Hello families,
We had a wonderful first full week of school. I think we are going to have a wonderful year. The students are settling in very well with the rules and routines of the classroom.
Literacy- Next week we will begin our first full week of our FunDations phonics program. This week the students were introduced to it Wed-Friday with a short orientation week. I sent home an orientation letter on Wednesday of this week. On Monday I will send home a new parent note for week 1. A parent note is sent home at the beginning of each week. This will explain what we are working on in class and some ideas for you to work on at home to support the program. I will also be sending home a laminated copy of the writing grid and a white board marker. Students can keep this at home to practice writing the letters following the verbal prompts. Each week I will send a colouring sheet for each letter. Please keep these in a safe place. They will be used again in Unit 2.
In writing, we are using a book called Scribble Scrabble to help us come up with ideas to draw about. Throughout this short unit will be focusing on learning about colours. Last week we talked about things that are red, yellow and orange. Next week we will draw about things that are blue, green, purple, pink and brown. We will read poems and sing songs to go with each colour. We will continue to work on recognizing our friends names through songs, games and station work.
Math- In math, we will be working on learning about the number 2 along with exploring the concepts of more and fewer.
