Hi Families,
I hope everyone was able to get home safely on Friday night. I was off to pick up my oldest to head to Truro for a cheerleading competition. It was a scary drive but we made it in one piece and got back before the snow hits tonight! It looks like we are in for some wintery weather tonight and tomorrow morning so make sure to check social media or listen to the radio if you have not signed up for the text alerts for delays and cancellations.
Literacy:
We are moving into week 2 of unit 2 this week. We will begin to look at the uppercase letters. We will move through these quickly. There are 2 everyday. Printing the letters is something that is an ongoing work in progress so if you have some time at home please practice. This week we will continue to practice tapping and blending CVC words. The students are really catching on to it and are so proud of themselves when they read the word. Please make sure to check out their homework folders this week for some more words to tap and blend nightly.
Reading Small Groups:
We will practice each day reading the words that are for homework. As the weeks go on we will start to put together words to read short decodable sentences.
Math:
We are working on the number 8 this week. You can work on this at home by getting 8 objects and having students break them up into 2 groups. Point out to students that no matter which way the group is split there will always still be 8 in total.
Dates to Remember
To celebrate Family Literacy Day Ms. Amy is asking families to send in a pictures of families reading or doing other literacy activities. As a school we will celebrate Family Literacy Day with the following two days.
Jan. 28 - Character Dress Up Day
Jan. 30 - Pajama Day
