Dear families,
It is hard to believe we are already almost halfway through Quarter 2! Winter break is just around the corner!
As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to express my gratitude to our school community. Every day, I am thankful for the privilege of working alongside Central's dedicated students, staff, and families.
We look forward to parent-teacher conferences at the following dates and times:
Monday, November 25: 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 26: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
If you have not already done so, take a look at the 24-25 Parent Teacher Conferences document that was sent out on Friday, November 8. Conference sign ups will be turned off on Thursday, November 21 so staff can prepare for conferences.
Thanks to all of the families who had conversations with students regarding the school safety information in last month's newsletter. We are so proud of our students and staff for their work with our safety drills.
As a reminder, you can learn more about I Love You Guys HERE.
During the district institute day on Monday, November 3, Central District 51 staff welcomed the I Love You Guys Foundation for a day-long training devoted to school safety. We are thankful to Central staff for their commitment to school safety!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

As the temps are cooling, please remind your student(s) to bring a coat to school. We will be going outside for recess unless the temperatures are below 20 degrees.
Please help us ensure student safety by having no more than 15 people at a time on the Central Spinner. Additionally, we ask that students stay below top bar of the spinner and do not hang on the outside.
While we understand recess is a fun time, we ask all students to keep their hands, feet, and bodies to themselves for safety reasons.
We appreciate any reinforcement on these items from home!
It is exciting to see Central students support their fellow classmates at extracurricular events. Please go over the following expectations with your child if they are planning to attend games at CIS:
Students should always show good sportsmanship. Actions like booing, turning backs to players, taunting, and making noises during expected silent times, and cheering against the other team do not show good sportsmanship.
Items from the concession stand are allowed in the gym. Please talk with your child about making sure their trash is picked up after games.
Students attending games must be in Holford Gym during gameplay. Students may not hang out in the Holford Lobby/Foyer during games.
If your child is planning to attend a game, please ensure a ride is arranged ahead of time.
Students, whether they are playing or not, are representing Central. Please encourage your child to be respectful to athletes and spectators. At no point should Central students talk to opponents, coaches, and officials.
Mrs. Brosch
On Friday, October 25th, we had a fun school assembly led by the Student Council! Teachers selected students to be recognized for Empathetic of the CENTRAL Code. Empathetic is aligned to the CASEL Social Emotional Learning Competency of Relationship Skills, which is defined as the ability to promote and maintain positive relationships and interactions with others. Congratulations to our recognized students!
A new and exciting part of CENTRAL Code this year is that recognized students will get to go to the primary school one morning to greet and welcome the primary students to school! The students recognized for Capable will be greeting primary students in the morning on November 16th! Students recognied for Empathetic will be greeting primary students sometime in December!
If you or your child have any questions or concerns that you think I can help with, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at kbrosch@central51.net.

Smile Illinois will be at Central on December 4th. Only students who have been signed up by a parent or guardian will be seen. Smile Illinois brings a state licensed dentist to our school once a year who provides teeth cleaning, inspection, fluoride treatment and will apply sealants as needed. A dental report card is sent home with your child.

Mrs. Perko - Reading
Conference time is almost here! Mrs. Perko and Mrs. Hahn are available in various ways to discuss your child’s progress during conferences. Your child is welcome to join you as they will have prepared something to share with you about their progress in reading and/or math. They will be thinking about their start to the 2024-2025 school year and will have some achievements to share as well as some thoughts about improvement or some goals they may have created. We would be happy to share the data we collect to talk about their progress.
You can schedule a time to meet with us individually in the same way you choose times with your child’s other teachers. We can also join a meeting you may have scheduled with your grade level Math or ELA teacher. If you would like us to attend another conference you schedule, please let us know as soon as possible so we can be sure to reserve the time for you. Let us know what works best for you and we will get you on the schedule.
If you think your student may need additional help with Math or Reading, feel free to reach out to us. Mandi Perko, Reading mperko@central51.net and Elizabeth Hahn, Math ehahn@central51.net

Amazingly October is behind us and it has been a very busy month. Central Care Club students have initiated a drive at CPS and collected thousands of items for WHIP. The students and teacher at CPS are amazing! Mrs. Zimmerman's class won a pizza party for bringing in the most items. They brought in over 1,000 items!!!! We also continued to donate our time as student helpers throughout the school and several of our CCC members handed out candy at the high school's Boo Bash.
Currently we have a drive for WHIP happening at CIS which ends on Community Day, November 22nd. The class that collects the most items wins a pizza party, the second place class wins ice cream sandwiches, and the grade level that collects the most itmes will get a pajama day!
Upcoming events to watch out for:
Community Day: November 22nd
During Community Day we will be sending home information about the families we adopt through the Salvation Army. Please watch for this information as this is Central Care Club's largest event for the year and the students love participating in this Central tradition.
