A big thanks to Officer Taylor for presenting information about Child Abduction Prevention and Online Safety to 5th - 8th graders on Wednesday, May 1. The presentation covered the following topics:
The presentation will cover the following topics:
Protecting Personal Information
Recognizing Unusual Behavior
Reporting Suspicious Activities to Trusted Adults
Safety Measures
I was impressed with each grade level's respect and attentiveness during the presentations. And, we appreciate our teachers for allowing us to borrow class time to focus on this safety aspect.
We are already busy planning for next school year, and one of our areas of focus is scheduling for the following school year. In order to provide a positive learning environment for all students, there are several factors our staff takes into account. These factors include special education needs, classroom accommodations, reading and math needs, teacher instructional approaches, and student needs that contribute to learning.
While parents are welcome to provide information in order to help us plan for the next school year, we can not guarantee placement with any particular staff member for the upcoming school year. If you feel that there is an extenuating circumstance that should be shared with us or have information you wish to share about your child that may assist with placement and schedules for next school year, please submit that information via email as soon as possible.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at ebush@central51.net!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

There are many activities in the summer for students to participate in. Click HERE for a list of camps and their information. Don't forget to look at community resources to see what is offered for your child as well.
Students at CIS have multiple opportunities to join various activities and athletics. We encourage students to get involved in whatever extracurricular they find interesting. As students get ready for next year, please take a look below to see what extracurriculars we offer at Central.

Summer Reading Opportunities
There are several recommended Summer Reading Lists. It is important to continue to read 20 minutes a day over the summer. One list in particular is the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ List. Rebecca Caudill List for 2025 School Year It is composed of top editors’ picks of young adult literature. It is a mixture of fiction and nonfiction with a variety of genres. It also takes into account many different cultures to enlighten young readers.

Another great resource is the Washington District Library in Washington and Sunnyland. Both branches have an excellent book selection for your avid OR picky reader. They also offer a great summer reading program and other activities. Get set up with a library card and dive into a good book. Washington District Library
For math, many of the same resources students use at school to supplement their math learning can also be used at home over the summer a couple of times a week. Students will still have access to ALEKS. ALEKS already knows your student’s strengths and weaknesses and will give them problems to solve they are ready to learn. Students can log into ALEKS from their chromebooks using Clever. Tell them to work on their pathway and they will know what to do because teachers have used it all year.
Students can also use 99math to work on their math fact fluency. I have also been using Math Fact Lab because it helps students do more than just memorize their math facts. It helps them model the facts and connect them with other facts through a series of different activity choices.
For students looking for a math challenge, there are some interesting problems at a Stanford based site called you cubed https://www.youcubed.org/tasks/ There are also some collaborative games to boost math thinking at Cambridge Based nrich.com https://nrich.maths.org/12752
