Dear Families,
As December arrives, it brings a time of reflection, celebration, and anticipation. As the year draws to a close, we’re reminded of the many successes and moments of growth we’ve shared as a school community.
This month, our students will continue their hard work, showcasing their talents and learning through classroom projects, performances, and events. Please keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming concerts, assemblies, and holiday activities—these moments are wonderful opportunities to see our students shine and connect as a school family.
We also take this time to focus on giving back. Our school is participating in the Salvation Army Project, where students can learn the value of kindness and community support. Thank you for your generosity in helping us make a difference.
As winter break approaches, I encourage families to take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the season with loved ones. Whether it’s reading a good book together, sharing stories, or taking a walk in the crisp December air, these moments create lasting memories and help us all return in January refreshed and ready to continue the journey.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our students. On behalf of all of us at Central Intermediate School, I wish you a joyful holiday season filled with peace, love, and happiness.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

Ms. Martin
During the holiday season, I hope you are able to enjoy time with family and friends and are able to find time to relax. As a reminder, when students stay in a consistent bedtime routine during their break, it will help them transition back after winter break.
As the temps are cooling, please remind your student(s) to bring a coat to school. We will be going outside for recess unless the temperatures, with wind-chill, are below 20 degrees.
In the case we are outside, please reinforce with your child that they should have warm gear for outside as we don't want them to be cold. In the case you need assistance with getting warm gear for your child, please let the CIS office know and we will try to assist in getting warm items.
There are many items in the lost and found. All lost and found items will be donated after Friday, December 20. Classes will be taken to the vestibule to look at the items to make sure students are finding anything that belongs to them. Please remind your child to look through the items before they are donated.

Happy December!
Because the months of November and December have such few school days, we will have our Noble assembly on December 20th instead of holding an assembly in both November and December.
On November 13th, students who were recognized for Capable had the opportunity to go to CPS in the morning to greet students coming into school. The younger students thought it was very fun to get a high five from the "big kids" on the way in to school. Students recognized for Empathetic will have the opportunity to greet CPS students on Wednesday, December 11th.
If you or your child have any questions or concerns that you think I can help with, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at kbrosch@central51.net.

Lice can be contracted any time of the year, but cases increase during the winter months. CIS currently does not have any reports of lice, however, it is good practice to check your student's hair regularly. While sharing hats, combs/brushes, hair ties, and pillows during sleepovers, etc can pass on cases of head lice, any head to head contact (think about those fun selfies with besties!) can increase the risk of acquiring lice.
The best prevention of spread is to check your student’s head at home, frequently, especially after head-to-head contact situations such as sleepovers and extended play dates. You will want to check your student’s head thoroughly for the following:
Small silvery nits(egg) fixed to the hair shaft. It may look like dandruff but will not move easily from the hair shaft.
If nits are present, look for live lice. Beware they are fast!!
Treatment can be completed at home or by a professional lice removal service. Please see the links below for more information regarding treatment or call your student’s primary care provider.
Prevention is the key! Please remind your child to do the following:
Try to avoid head-to-head contact
Don’t share combs, brushes, hats, scarves, bandanas, ribbons, hair ties or any other personal care items with anyone else.

With a semester almost behind us, it will be time to check in on student progress with STAR again the week of December 9, 2024. As always, please help us by encouraging your students to give their best effort and get plenty of rest and a hearty breakfast to prepare for their tests. Teachers will review the data and make any changes needed to the support students are receiving in reading and math. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or concerns. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered during the Book Fair! We are excited to get new books for our library!
If you are looking to clean out books, we are happy to take them off your hands. You can send them with your students or drop them off in Holford Entry. I will distribute them to libraries and classrooms in both buildings. Any extra books will be given to the Central Care Club's book sale at the end of the year.
Mrs. Youngman
Your student came home on Friday, November 22nd with information about the Central Salvation Army Project. This Central tradition is now 21 years strong! The attached are the informational letters (CPS, 5th grade, CIS) we went over in class with the students and sent home on Friday. The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders also decided for which gender/age they wanted to buy. We encourage but do not require your child to help provide for these families.
