Mrs. Bush
Mrs. Bush
Dear Families,
What an amazing start to school we have had! We love having our students back in the building, and all of them are settling into the new school year! Thank you to our families for helping our students with this smooth transition!
Homework Assistance
Grade levels will be sending out information about Homework Assistance. Unfortunately, we do not have transportation in place at this time. We hope to be able to provide this service and will communicate when we have more information.
CENTRAL Code
We are excited to continue our progress with CENTRAL Code this year. Last week, during Social Emotional Learning, students reviewed each letter of our CENTRAL Code and discussed them in homeroom. This week, students worked to set goals and hung them in their lockers so they can refer to them throughout the school year.
The September CENTRAL Code focus is Capable. A Capable Trojan is:
A student who controls their emotions and behaviors
A student who completes tasks in new or challenging situations
On Wednesday, September 27, we will celebrate students recognized for being Capable during our Capable CENTRAL Code Assembly during SEL Time.
If you would like to watch the video that students watched during SEL time, feel free to watch it HERE!
Trojan Trot
We can't wait for the 2nd Trojan Trot on Friday, September 29! We hope you will join us to cheer on your child during the run!
In addition to the run, we are planning lots of fun activities for students.
We are lucky to have wonderful families who made the Trojan Trot successful last year, and we are looking forward to another successful year. Thanks to to Trojan Trot Planning Committee for all your hard work planning the event!
ROCK Dates
ROCK is a PTO-sponsored incentive event for 5th through 8th-grade students held at Central Intermediate School during the evening. Students in 5th through 8th grade may qualify for ROCK based on the following:
No detentions related to behavior or tardies
No unexcused absences
We hope all of our CIS students will be able to attend ROCK! The ROCK dates for the 23-24 school year are:
Friday, November 3
Friday, April 19
Again, thank you all for an amazing start to the 23-24 school year! We are so lucky to be a part of your child's education and wish all of you the best this school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ericka Bush
CIS Principal
Ms. Martin
It's been great seeing students back at CIS! We look forward to seeing the growth of all of our students through the year.
Thank you for making the start of the year a smooth process with drop off/pick up! It has been impressive to see how many students are arriving on time. By following the directions for drop off/pick up, you are making a difference in making certain classes start on time and students are punctual.
As a reminder, please do NOT park on Eagle or Bobolink when you drop off or pick up your child. If you choose to park in the parking lot and drop off/pick up your child, please walk with them through the parking lot. As drivers are moving through the parking lot, it can be difficult to see children walking. We want to keep all students and family as safe as possible. We appreciate your cooperation!
While students are going to and coming from school, we want them to be as safe as possible. Mrs. Bush and Ms. Martin reviewed the procedures/expectations with all students at the beginning of the year. We would appreciate any reinforcement at home!
In the interest of the student’s safety and in compliance with State law, students are expected to observe the following while riding a school bus:
Dress properly for the weather. Make sure all drawstrings, ties, straps, etc. on all clothing, backpacks and other items, are shortened or removed to lessen the likelihood of them getting caught in bus doors, railings or aisles.
Arrive on time at the bus stop, and stay away from the street while waiting for the bus.
Stay away from the bus until it stops completely and the driver signals you to board. Enter in a single file without pushing. Always use the handrail.
Take a seat right away and remain seated facing forward. Keep your hands, arms, and head inside the bus.
Talk quietly on the bus. No shouting or creating loud noises that may distract the driver. Tablets, iPods®, iPads®, smart phones, and other electronic devices must be silenced on the bus unless a student uses headphones.
Help keep the bus neat and clean. Keep belongings out of the aisle and away from emergency exits. Eating and drinking are not allowed on the bus.
Always listen to the driver’s instructions. Be courteous to the driver and other students. Sit with your hands to yourself and avoid making noises that would distract the driver or bother other passengers. Remain seated, keeping your hands, arms, and head inside the bus at all times.
Wait until the bus pulls to a complete stop before standing up. Use the handrail when exiting the bus.
Stay out of the danger zone next to the bus where the driver may have difficulty seeing you. Take five giant steps away from the bus and out of the danger zone, until you can see the driver and the driver sees you. Never crawl under a bus.
If you must cross the street after you get off the bus, wait for the driver’s signal and then cross in front of the bus. Cross the street only after checking both ways for traffic.
Never run back to the bus, even if you dropped or forgot something.
Please see the image below indicating areas of protentional hazard for students and areas most appropriate for students to wait and load onto the bus.
Thank you for your continued support at home!
Mrs. Brosch
Welcome to the 23-24 school year! My name is Kristen Brosch, and I am the school counselor at Central Intermediate School. I hope getting back in the swing of school has gone smoothly! Though many returning parents are likely aware of the following resources, I wanted to share them again as a reminder. For new Central families, please take a look at the information below and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!
Counseling Resources:
Meet the School Counselor - Here is some more information about me!
CENTRAL Code - This is a program that was started last year to teach SEL and character education and to recognize students who demonstrate the character traits of the program. CIS holds assemblies to recognize the students for CENTRAL Code.
School Counseling Request Form - This is a form that students can use to request to speak with Mrs. Brosch, CIS school counselor.
Central District 51 Bullying Form - This form can be used by any parent, staff member, or student to report bullying.
Safe2HelpIl - This is a confidential and anonymous reporting system run by the State of IL that parents, teachers, and students can utilize to report safety concerns. Students in 7th and 8th grade were introduced to this resource last year. This year, we will be rolling out Safe2HelpIl for our 6th grade class, as well as reminding 7th and 8th graders of this resource. There will be an opt out option available for any families who would prefer their student not participate in learning about this resource.
Nurse Martin
Medication
If your child must have medication of any type during school hours, including over-the-counter medications, we must have the following completed.
The Medication Administration form must be completed by both a parent and physician for all medication including both prescription and over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Tums, Cold medicine, etc.
Prescription medications must be brought to school in it's original pharmacy bottle. If you notify your pharmacy you will need to leave medication at school they will give you a second bottle with the prescription sticker. Over-the-counter medication must be in it's original container. Baggies of pills cannot be accepted. Please do not send medication with your student on the bus.
Mrs. Perko - Reading
Students are completing the Fall STAR benchmark tests for reading and math the week of August 28. The data is being analyzed to provide the proper support for students in the classroom and small groups. Small group intervention has been underway. If your student is working with us, you will have received a phone call or email from us already.
Your student uses a software program called Renaissance at school. This program has a special feature called Home Connect, which your student and you can access outside of school from any computer with an Internet Connection. Home Connect allows you to view information about your student's progress. It also allows you to sign up to receive email notifications after he or she completes an activity or assessment at school. You can log in to Home Connect from any computer with an Internet Connection and compatible browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and most mobile devices. All parents and guardians, please take some time to sign up for Renaissance Home Connect! This will allow you to receive instant notifications as soon as your student completes a STAR or Accelerated Reader test. The link and directions from Renaissance are below.
~~Home Connect Directions
***When in doubt, have your students log into their Renaissance STAR account and then follow the directions on the link from there! Our goal is to get as many parents to sign up as possible for Renaissance Home Connect!
Again, here is the link to log in to Home Connect Website:
https://global-zone50.renaissance-go.com/studentprogress/homeconnect?t=333449
The link should bring you to the login page for Renaissance. Please enter your student's username and password: graduation year, first initial, last name and their lunch pin. An example of an eighth grader would be 23mperko for the username.
We look forward to continuing our work with students to help them build the necessary skills in reading and math this year. For questions about math or reading success and skill building, email us at mperko@central51.net or ehahn@central51.net.

Mrs. Lang - PE
Welcome Back! We have enjoyed having the students back in PE! We have a great year planned to keep the students active and healthy.
Please make sure your child has a pair of PE shoes at school. They are required to wear them daily.
Students can earn a total of 4 points a day in our gym. They earn points based on wearing gym shoes, completing warm ups, participation in the game/ activity, and good behavior. Each week the students can earn a total of 20 points and we will record those in Skyward just like last year.
Mr. Godinez- Health
