Can you believe it's February? It seems like this year is flying by! Please see the reminder below about pick up/drop off.
Drop off/Pick up
Student safety is a priority at CIS. By following the directions for drop off/pick up, you are making a difference in making certain classes start on time and students are punctual, but most of all, you are making sure students are arriving safely.
As a reminder, please do NOT park on Eagle or Bobolink when you drop off or pick up your child. If you choose to park in the parking lot and drop off/pick up your child, PLEASE WALK YOUR CHILD THROUGH THE PARKING LOT TO THE CROSSWALK. As drivers are moving through the parking lot, it can be difficult to see children walking. We want to keep all students and family as safe as possible. We appreciate your cooperation!
Mrs. Brosch
CENTRAL Code:
We are now over halfway through CENTRAL Code for this school year! We just had our 4th CENTRAL Code assembly last week, where 33 students were recognized for exhibiting Thoughtfulness! It is always rewarding to see the student's enthusiasm and excitement during the CENTRAL Code assemblies. Congratulations to all the students who were recognized for Thoughtful!
We have now moved on to Responsibility. During SEL lessons this month, teachers and students will discuss how to demonstrate responsibility at home and school. In addition, teachers will engage students in discussing how reporting school safety concerns is also an example of being responsible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out at kbrosch@central51.net.

RtI Tier Assignments Aren’t Forever
Even before disruptions to learning the last few years, students have always needed a little extra help with concepts from time to time. RtI was born almost 20 years ago to address the changing needs of students. All CIS students are placed in RtI levels of either Tier 1, 2, or 3 for both Reading and Math. Are the levels for the whole school year? No! CIS teachers are constantly gathering data about student learning. Whether it is through observation, classroom tests, homework assignments, or some of the programs we have like IXL or Studysync, teachers are looking for students who have changing needs for support in math and reading. Our district also looks closely at standardized tests like STAR and IAR to make instructional decisions for students of all levels. We sit together as teams four times a year to talk about which students need more support at this moment. Does that mean students are in RtI forever? Absolutely not. Our goal is always to find the gaps, strengthen skills, and prepare students for success in Tier 1 alone. Students commonly move out of reading and math assistance. Sometimes they need to return. That is what the system is about. Monitoring student success and providing what they need at the moment to continue their educational journey. We are always here to help your students.
For questions about math or reading success and skill building, email us at mperko@central51.net or ehahn@central51.net.

The Central Care Club is making plans for the last four months of school (I know...crazy:). Please be on the look out for how you can support our club and community organizations. In February we are planning a fundraiser for TAPS (No kill animal shelter).
As always we collect all year for WHIP (Washington Helps its People). Please continue to send in non-perishable items to stock their shelves. They also accept toiletry items, cleaning items, etc... for families in need.
Mrs. Haight
We love using technology here at Central, so it is super important that we take extra special care of our devices. For a little extra love and care to keep breakage to a minimum, please consider purchasing either a hard case for your Chromebook or a durable sleeve. We are seeing a lot of breaks with the Chromebooks since returning from Winter break, primarily screens, and cracked corners.
Model Type:
Silver Samsung Chromebook: XE310XBA
Black Samsung Chromebook: XE500C13
Black Lenovo Chromebook: 100e Chromebook 2nd Gen
It's also important to note that you use the correct charging cords for your Chromebook. Do not use Apple products on a Samsung device and vice versa. They will not charge properly and can cause issues with the battery/charging area.
Mrs. Heffta
We will be blind dating books and continuing Winter Bingo this month!
We are so grateful to Washington Township for giving us the ability to purchase new books again this year. The new books will be on the shelves this month.
If you are looking to clean out books, we are happy to take them off your hands. You can send them with your students or drop them off in the Holford Entry.
