Working in a team

...can be challenging at times, however, it goes much more smoothly if everyone has a role or job. Deciding in advance who will do what can mean the difference between success and failure. Each person in the team may have to take on several roles in order to cover all of the jobs.

Make sure that you change roles from lab to lab. Try the different roles out to see what you are best at and work to improve where you can!

Tips for Working in Different Groups

Working with a Partner

  • Partner A: Share your thinking
  • Partner B: Make eye contact and listen for understanding

Then switch roles

  • Finally, compare how your thinking is the same and different
    • We agree that…
    • We disagree that...

Monitor Your Team’s Progress

When a teammate is confused--

  • Ask: “Explain which part of the success criteria you don’t understand.”
  • Have them look at their work - Ask: “Which part of the success criteria you have met?”
    • When you hear a mistake, stop your teammate and say or ask:
      • “Why did you choose to do that?”
      • “When I did this, I was thinking about…”
      • “Let’s look at the success criteria”
      • “What do you think is missing?”
