The Moon

MS-ESS1-1. - Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons.

Learning Targets

  • Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases

Success Criteria

  • I can make daily observations of the moon when it is visible.
  • I can record data about the phases of the moon over a period of time.
  • I can predict the phase of the moon when given the relative locations of the Earth, sun, and moon.

Moon Journal

  • Use the Moon Phase Journal over the course of a month to discover and record how the moon appears to change over time.
  • Make daily observations of the moon and create a quick diagram in each box illustrate what you see.
  • If the weather doesn't allow for an accurate observation, use the resources below to find see the current phase of the moon.
  • You must observe for at least 28 days.
  • Complete the back of the moon journal after you have completed 28 days of observations.
