Learning Target

  • Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell

Success Criteria

  • Students will develop a model in which they identify the parts of cells relevant for the given phenomenon.
    • nucleus, chloroplasts, cell wall, mitochondria, cell membrane, and the function of a cell as a whole

In the model, students describe the relationships between components, including:

  • The particular functions of parts of cells in terms of their contributions to overall cellular functions (e.g.,
    • ex - chloroplasts’ involvement in photosynthesis and energy production
  • MS-LS1-6. - Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of organisms.
  • MS-LS1-2. - Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function.
