Project amd Realisation in Sanremo

For the realization of the Stolpersteine project the city council member Silvana Ormea has illustrated the procedure for the drafting of the stumbling blocks and the bureaucratic issues that the Municipality must support.

First of all, it must be said that each department has a budget, which must be sufficient to cover the cost of the stones of € 132 each. The names of the stones to be laid are sent to the German association CDEC for construction. It is important to point out that although some families are willing to pay the full amount, the municipality personally liquidates the expenses in memory of the unjustly disappeared. The time for the realization is quite long as the demand is large and the stumbling stones are small square blocks of stone covered with a brass foil whose preparation is complex.

In Sanremo six stones lie for now in front of the door of each of the houses in which the deportees lived, but soon another five will be laid. In the morning of the draft, the workers of the City realize the hole which will be covered by the stone during the day. Shortly in Sanremo there will be a total of 25 stumbling blocks that will allow the Sanremo community to remember and pay homage to the victims deported during the Nazi period.  A special thanks goes to Vittorio Ottolenghi,  who thanks to his 10-year research has allowed the realization of the project.
