The tracheobronchial lymph nodes form four main groups:
tracheal - on either side of the trachea.
bronchial - in the angles between the lower part of the trachea and the right and left main bronchi, as well as in the angle between the two main bronchi.
bronchopulmonary - in the hilum of each lung.
pulmonary - in the lung substance, on the larger branches of the bronchi.
The tracheobronchial lymph nodes drain the lungs and bronchi, the thoracic part of the trachea, and the heart. Some of the lymph from the posterior mediastinal lymph nodes also end in this group.
Lymph from the tracheobronchial lymph nodes ascends the trachea to unite with lymph from the internal mammary and anterior mediastinal lymph nodes in the right and left bronchomediastinal trunks.
