Ansa cervicalis

A loop of nerve that supplies motor innervation to several of the infrahyoid muscles. Composed of a superior root (C1) and an inferior root (C2 and C3) that fuse inferiorly to form a loop (ansa) in the neck (cervicalis). Sits on (is sometimes embedded in) the carotid sheath.
