The corpora cavernosa are paired erectile tissue bodies that attach to the ischiopubic ramus inferiorly, and join together to form the body of the clitoris in females or the body of the penis in males. In both males and females the corpora cavernosa are covered by the ischiocavernosus m. along the part of the erectile tissue that is attached to the pelvis (the crus of the clitoris or crus of the penis), but the muscle does not extend into the body of the clitoris or penis. The two fused corpora cavernosa form the entirety of the clitoris. In males, the corpus spongiosum erectile tissue joins the two corpora cavernosa to form the body of the penis.
