INSERT Image/DXF/DWG

DXF or DWG files can be inserted into a sketch as sketch entities.

The DXF or DWG must have already been imported into the currently open document (or another document you own or that has been shared with you
It is recommended that you insert DXF or DWG files into an empty sketch, though it is possible to insert into a sketch with existing sketch entities.

The INSERT IMAGE tool is located in the Right side of the sketch toolbar.

The Insert IMAGE tool has a pull down menu with options for a INSERT IMAGE and INSERT DXF or DWG tools.
The most recently IMPORT IMAGE tool will be shown on the toolbar and can be LEFT CLICKED directly.

A DXF and DWG are CAD 2 Dimensional Exports generally in the form of a drawing.

CLOSE all Onshape windows except the main window for the part you are working on (Close sketches, extrudes,,,,)
LEFT CLICK the INSERT NEW ELEMENT (plus sign) in the lower left corner of the onshape window
LEFT CLICK on IMPORT
Select the DWG/DXF file you want to import and select Choose

After completing the steps above:

Start a new sketch and Select the Plane or face to sketch on.
LEFT CLICK on the INSERT DXF or DWG tool
LEFT CLICK on the drawing that you imported in the previous section from the list.
Delete all lines that are not required
Add one dimension to verify the size of the model.
Revise that dimension to rescale the entire sketch.
Use Geometry as desired.

Use an imported image as a basis for a sketch.
- You can upload an image to your document, then open that image in a sketch.
- You can create sketch geometry using the image as a guide.
  - The sketch image cannot be used to create a solid shape. You must draw the approximate shape on top of the image.

Use an existing sketch or Start a new sketch
LEFT CLICK on the INSERT IMAGE tool
LEFT CLICK on IMPORT if IMAGE not visible on list
- Select the IMAGE you want to import from the appropriate folder.
- LEFT CLICK on CHOOSE
LEFT CLICK on the IMAGE you desire
LEFT CLICK on the first point of the rectangle which will define the size of the image
DRAG the cursor in the any direct to set the approximate size of the IMAGE
Add one dimension to verify the size of the model.
Revise that dimension to rescale the entire sketch.
SKETCH on top of the Image using any shape tools to duplicate the desired shapes.
