DC01: SKETCHING OVERVIEW

CAD THEORY

A SKETCH is used to create a FEATURE. One or more FEATURES combined together create a PART. A group of PARTS can be put together to create an ASSEMBLY.

FEATURES are 3D elements such as Cubes, Cylinders, and Holes.

SKETCHING

A SKETCH is the base of any part designed in Onshape (or most other CAD programs).
A SKETCH is where you define the 2-Dimensional shape and size of a feature.
The SKETCH is used to make a 3-Dimensional FEATURE using tools such as EXTRUDE, REVOLVE, LOFT, and SWEEP

This is the PART with extruded FEATURES (cube with square hole) made from the SKETCH above.
