TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT

A TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT modify the length of a line or split it into two separate lines.

The TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT tool is located in the Right side of the sketch toolbar.

The TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT tool has a pull down menu with options for a TRIM, EXTEND, and SPLIT tools.
The most recently used TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT tool will be shown on the toolbar and can be LEFT CLICKED directly.

ACTIVITY

On the sketch created in MyFirstPart:
- Delete all lines and points in the sketch
- Duplicate each example below.

trim

The TRIM tool can delete a whole line or a section of a line that intersects another line or curve.

LEFT CLICK on the TRIM tool
LEFT CLICK on the line(s) you want to delete

Extend

The EXTEND tool can stretch or shorten the length of a line by moving the endpoint.

The endpoint can be placed any location along the axis of the line
The endpoint can be moved to another line by moving the cursor on an intersecting line (It will turn yellow)

LEFT CLICK on the EXTEND tool
LEFT CLICK on the endpoint of the line(s) you want to modify.
Move the cursor to the location of the new endpoint.
LEFT CLICK to set the new endpoint location.

Split

The SPLIT tool can divide a line or a curve into two separate entities

SPLIT at any location on a line/curve

LEFT CLICK on the SPLIT tool
LEFT CLICK at the location of the line or curve where you want to divide the entity.
- To SPLIT the line in half, move over a Midpoint and a yellow box will illuminate.
  - LEFT CLICK to SPLIT

SPLIT at an intersection of two lines or curves

LEFT CLICK on the SPLIT tool
Move the cursor over the line/curve you want to SPLIT.
- The line/curve will turn yellow

Move the cursor over the point where the line/curve intersects with another entity.
- Both lines/curves will turn yellow.
LEFT CLICK at that location to SPLIT the first line.

You can end the TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT tool by:

Pressing ESC on the keyboard.
Clicking the TRIM/EXTEND/SPLIT tool on the toolbar.
