DC08: Sketching

Circle and ellipse

The Circle tool is located in the upper left of the toolbar.

The Circle tool has a pull down menu with options for a CENTER POINT CIRCLE, a 3 POINT CIRCLE, and an ELLIPSE.
The most recently used CIRCLE tool will be shown on the toolbar and can be LEFT CLICKED directly.
The other option can be selected by LEFT CLICKING on the blue arrow next to the CIRCLE tool, and clicking on the desired tool.

ACTIVITY

On the sketch created in MyFirstPart:

Delete all lines and points in the sketch
Duplicate each example below.
1. For the 3 Point Circle and Ellipse, create and constrain a rectangle and point as shown in the example.

Center Point Circle

LEFT CLICK on the CENTER POINT CIRCLE Tool

Center on a specific point

Move the cursor to a specific point where the center of the circle will be located.
- The point can be any of the following
  - A Specific Point
  - An endpoint or midpoint of a line
  - The origin
LEFT CLICK on the point.
Move the cursor to create the approximate size of the circle
LEFT CLICK to lock in the approximate location
Enter the value for the RADIUS of the circle
Press RETURN

Center at an approximate location

Move the cursor to a approximate location where the center of the circle will be located.
LEFT CLICK.
Move the cursor to create the approximate size of the circle
LEFT CLICK to lock in the approximate location
Enter the value for the RADIUS of the circle
Press RETURN
LEFT CLICK on the DIMENSION Tool to define the location of the CENTER POINT of the Circle.
- Define the Center Point using the same method as defining the location of any point.

3 Point Circle

Ellipse

To draw an Ellipse, the Major and Minor Axis will defined.

Major Axis is the longest diameter. It goes from one side of the ellipse, through the center, to the other side, at the widest part of the ellipse
Minor Axis is the shortest diameter (at the narrowest part of the ellipse).

Steps to drawing an Ellipse

LEFT CLICK the Center Point for an Ellipse similar to a Center Point Circle
Move the Cursor to the approximate End Point of One of the Axis.
LEFT CLICK on that location
Move the Cursor to the approximate End Point of the other Axis.
LEFT CLICK on that location
Enter the length of the Diameter of the first Axis
Press RETURN on the Keyboard
Enter the length of the Diameter of the second Axis
Press Return on the Keyboard

You can end the CIRCLE tool by:

Pressing ESC on the keyboard.
Clicking the CIRCLE tool on the toolbar.
