Relationship and sex education: We would like to invite you to join us in the primary multi purpose room on Wednesday 24th April 2:30pm to 3:15pm, where we will share the coverage and some of the resources that will be used with the children in the teaching of this aspect of the curriculum.
Please see Sex Ed letter below:
Dear Parents,
The English National Curriculum expects that all schools teach pupils about Relationship and Sex Education as part of both the PSHE and Science curriculum. As a school we follow the English Department for Education and present this programme of learning in a moral and social framework which is appropriate to our setting in Oman. We appreciate that this area of study can be a highly sensitive subject; however, we wish to work with you to ensure that every child and every family is supported.
Some parts of RSE are compulsory, as they are components of the PSHE curriculum (regarding forming positive relationships and also the Science curriculum regarding biology). Some lessons are more specific and, in the Primary School, cover puberty in Year 5 and sexual reproduction in Year 6.
We would like to invite you to join us at a meeting on the 24 April from 2.30 pm to 3.15pm in the primary MPR to share the coverage and some of the resources that will be used with the children.
Thank you for your support

This week in Year 6 we have continued our new topic ‘Our Precious Planet’. This will form the basis of our humanities research. We have been exploring the world’s mountain ranges, discussing the formation and geography of mountains.
In English we are reading the book ‘Floodland’ by Marcus Sedgwick. This award winning book closely links to our topic and will underpin our writing this term; we will be writing a biased newspaper article. This week, we have consolidated some of the Year 5 and 6 grammatical features such as relative clauses, subordinate clauses and using passive voice. We have practised these in readiness for our independent writing.
In Maths, we have identified that problems can be written as a ratio; we have solved problems involving similar shapes where the scale factor is known.
Reading - Please read for 20 minutes per day and record this in you P.O. Please record the book title and page numbers and ask an adult to sign.
Spelling - Practise your spelling words every day. You can access the Jamboard in the ‘spelling’ folder in your Google Classroom. Please remember to click ‘turn in’ on the assignment to submit your work to your teacher.

Happy New Year and welcome back to Term 2. We hope that you have had a restful break.
This week in Year 6 we have started our new topic ‘Our Precious Planet’. This will form the basis of our humanities research, started this week by asking questions related to the topic. In English we are taking part in the BSME Prmary Creative Writing event, with each child using a writing prompt to create a narrative. In Maths, we have developed our knowledge of how to use ratio, identifying that a problem can be written as a ratio and solve problems using this relationship.
Of course, we have also participated in Year 6 sports day. A very exciting event enjoyed by all!
English Reading - Read the uploaded text ‘Music Box’ and then spend 20 minutes answering the questions. Please answer in full sentences where appropriate. You can either print the questions and bring a hard copy into school or add a digital version to the homework task. We will be marking the work in school next week.
Self assessment of reading tasks - please use the answer grids to self assess your previous reading homework from 30/11/2023 (The Parkm - marks out of 14) and 7/12/2023 (Bumblebees - marks out of 19). Once marked, please add a comment in the 'Private Comment' box to tell your teacher what marks you got.
Dear Parents
We would like to welcome you to our annual Sports Day event for Year 5 and 6 students on the above date from 8:00 – 1:15. The activities are based on those that the students have been participating in during regular PE lessons. The schedule for the day’s events is as in the table below.
Spectators will be allowed in the sports halls, but are requested to wear flat shoes. Please feel free to wear house colours to add to the atmosphere. Students are requested to come to school in their PE kit and bring hats and water bottles. They will not need their school uniform to change, as the Sports Day runs for the majority of the day.
Upon entering, please ensure you wear your parents badge at all times. If you do not have a parent badge, or are bringing relatives who do not have a BSM badge, please sign in with the security guards either at the top or bottom car park. They will issue you a badge to wear at all times which then needs to be returned to the security team on departure.
There will be a break between 9:30 - 10:30 am. I am sorry but we do not have catering facilities available on site and parents will be asked to leave the site for this one hour period so that break sessions and other activities can go ahead in the space.
We anticipate the event will finish around 1:00 pm. All children will need to return to their classrooms to collect their belongings. If you would like to take your child at this time, please collect them from their classroom so that their class teacher can sign them out. Please note that you will not be able to take siblings at this time. Siblings in other year groups should be collected at their usual time. If your child has an ECA on this day they are still expected to attend.
We have limited parking available in the school. Please do not park in the top car park as we have EYFS and KS1 pick up happening before the end of Year 5 and 6 sports day.
The bottom car park will be made available for parents to park in the two drop off lanes in the underground carpark between 07:50 am until 1:15 pm. It is essential that no-one parks down the middle of these lanes as this will cause an obstruction for anyone trying to leave. We would ask that you do not park any earlier than 07:50 am. Parents must vacate the drop off zones by 1:20 pm at the latest. In addition to this, there are 45 spaces outside the bottom car park and more parking outside school premises on Al Nadhayer street, Way 1949 and Way 1947. Where possible, we would ask families to carpool to reduce congestion in the car park.
We hope you will join us.
Sincerely,
Mr. O’Sullivan
Primary PE Coordinator
