When preparing for a modified block schedule, you will need to think about:
How many academic periods will you use? Will you include periods for homeroom/advisory? Lunch? Flex? Others?Â
Are all classes running for a full 90-ish minute period or will some be subdivided? If so, divide the classes in WVEIS and label as 1, 1b, 2, 2b, etc. (See screen shot below for the result of this.)
What order do you want your periods listed? We can now place them in the correct order without number confusion that we used to see in some reports.
Starting in 2025-26 there will be 4 levels of daily attendance: Tardy, 1/4 Day Absent, 1/2 Day Absent and Full Day Absent
Automatic conversion of period into daily absences will work best if all periods are the same length of time
Classes that bridge periods will be listed with the starting period but will count for 2 period absences
DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS! Classes bridged across odd & even days count period absences too many times. Instead, create an attendance-only class for "part 2"
Middle schools: use "WEIGHT" option for GPA's to separate GPA from the number of periods a class is scheduled. Also, make sure classes are weighted correctly in School Offered Courses.
High schools: GPA's are based on credits, not periods so these scheduling changes will not affect your GPA's
