SCRATCH PAPER

SCRATCH ART PAPER is a fun and unique way to create an Artwork.  Instead of ADDING Lines, Shapes, and Color to the paper, you SUBTRACT the top layer (usually Black) by SCRATCHING it away.

Scratch Boards have been around for hundreds of years, and Artists use them for all sorts of drawings.

TECHNIQUES (tek - neeks)

"HOW TO" use Scratch Paper:

ART IDEA  #1

Make Your Own Paper

Scratch Art Paper is pretty easy to find at a store, but it might be fun to try and make your own!  Start with a "BETTER" piece of paper (heavy tag board) and COMPLETELY cover it with waxy CRAYON or OIL PASTEL.  Then, gently coat it with a thin layer of TEMPERA PAINT.  Let it dry completely, then you're ready to start SCRATCHING!!

ART IDEA  #2

Lights Out!

Since Scratch Art Paper is usually coated with Black, you can easily create a colorful OUTER SPACE or NIGHT TIME picture.  Again, be careful not to scrape away too much of the DARKNESS.  See if you can CREATE an interesting "night" picture.

TEXTURES

By using different SCRAPERS and sticks and "scratchers", you'll find that you can create all sorts of interesting Lines and Textures on your Scratch Art Paper.  Grab a piece of Scratch Art Paper, and see if you can CREATE a TEXTURED drawing.
