What can you do with a plain old ordinary Pencil?
. . . A LOT!!
An ordinary pencil is one of the easiest, most basic Art Tools. You can find one almost anywhere! Grab a pencil and you can PRACTICE your Drawing Skills, SKETCH out some Ideas, or even take a piece of paper to the NEXT LEVEL!!
TECHNIQUES (tek - neeks)
There are many different things you can do with a pencil - VALUE shading, HATCHING lines, SMOOTHING and ERASING . . don't be afraid to try different ways of using your pencil!
This Pencil Drawing by Chilean Artist Claudio Bravo is a perfect example of taking an "Ordinary Pencil" and a "Simple Subject" (Feet!?) and turning it into something beautiful. Notice how Bravo used a lot of the Techniques shown above to make the drawing look Realistic.

Sometimes it's just a good idea to PRACTICE drawing something . . "The more you Practice, the Better you get!" There are LOTS of step-by-step, "How To Draw" Books in the back of the Art Room. Find one you like, and go PRACTICE! Who knows, your "practice" might turn into an amazing drawing!?

Still-Life Drawing
Artists have always tried their best to Draw What They See. To make a "Still Life" Drawing, find an OBJECT that you'd like to draw (Not Too HARD to draw, but not to EASY). Then, grab a piece of BLANK PAPER and DRAW what you see!

"Zentangle" Patterns
Zentangles were a Big Hit about 10 years ago, but "DOODLING" has been around for a long, long time. . . just take a Pencil, and let it WANDER across the paper.
Zentangles were famous for using LINES and REPEATING PATTERNS to create a Cool overall design. Find a piece of paper and CREATE some AMAZING Patterns of your own!

One final, FUN idea to try with a pencil . . CREATE a SMUDGY, SCRIBBLY "BLOB" . . and try turning it into something . . . like an Animal, or a Face, or something completely out of your Imagination!!
