Bridget Riley

Bridget Riley was born in 1931 in London, England.  She is known as an 'Op Art' painter.  Her artworks are meant to 'trick your eyes' and look like they are moving . . or even make you DIZZY!  Bridget carefully painted the same LINES and PATTERNS over and over again to make her artworks come alive.

"Pink Landscape" - 1960

"Kiss" - 1961

"Intake" - 1964

"Cataract" - 1967

These eight artworks by Bridget Riley are in the ORDER in which she made them, from 1960 - 2003.  Can you see how the way she PAINTED them CHANGED as she grew older?

"Zing 1" - 1971

"Ecclesia" - 1985

"Shadowplay" - 1990

"Two Blues" - 2003

ART IDEA  #1

OP Art uses REPEATING Lines, Colors and Shapes to fool you eyes.  When done correctly, the entire artwork looks like it's ALIVE!  CREATE an OP Artwork that looks like it's moving.  This one will take a lot of patience and careful measuring!!

ART IDEA  #2

Like most artists, Bridget had a great eye for COLOR.  CREATE an artwork using NO MORE than FIVE Colors.

ART IDEA  #3

In 1983 the Royal Hospital in Liverpool, England asked Bridget to DESIGN a COLORFUL new look for their hallways.  CREATE an IDEA (sketch it out first) for our School Hallways.  If things go right, you might be the 'famous' artist that JAZZED up Ben Logan Elementary's hallways!!
