Amos Lambert was born in Marion, Ohio, December 29, 1843. Amos Lambert joined the Civil War as a private on September 18th, 1861 and was wounded during battle. He was shot in the thigh while he was on a bank near a river. He served a total of three years and six months. While being treated, Amos met his future wife and the daughter of a doctor, Romaine Christine Hitch. They instantly they fell in love. Romaine was born May 3rd, 1849 in Aravia, Ohio. Amos was discharged on July 1, 1865 as a first sergeant. After Amos was discharged, he married Romaine. Before moving to Ekalaka the family lived in Colorado in the 1880s, then moved to the Carter County area in 1892. Mr. Lambert made his living as a carpenter, helping to build the Odd Fellows Hall in Ekalaka. Altogether they had ten children. The original homestead house they built was later moved to the O'Fallon Historical Musuem. Amos Lambert died on June 12, 1925 after battling complications of paraylsis from 1918. His obituary states that, "Mr. Lambert was a man of quiet and retiring disposition, very industrious and scrupulously honest in all business matters. He is spoken highly of by all of his old acquaintances."
