Edward Lawler, better known as Ed, was a big part of the building of Baker Montana. Ed Lawler came to Baker from Rochester Minnesota. Him and his wife, Dove, got married on March 2, 1908. Shortly after, the couple took a train to Marmarth North Dakota, and took up a homestead. In 1908 Ed, along with his partner Dr. W H Young had successfully opened the first drug store in Baker. A Little later in life Ed joined Earl Sibley and they opened a second drug store in the small town of Plevna, just a few miles from Baker. He and his wife had two kids, Jack and Anne Mae. As the years passed, people came and left. They were here today and gone tomorrow. But not Ed, Ed stuck it out through the good times and the bad. When the store wasn't selling prescriptions, it was selling candie, records, papers, books, and postcards. Unfortunately Ed passed away from pneumonia on Monday December 3rd 1951 . His legacy will never be forgotten, especially in the small town of Baker.
