Sam Duffield was a native of northern Ireland where he lived as a young boy. He was born on January 12,1866. He had many siblings. He came to the United States with his grandmother and 3 or 4 younger ones. They homesteaded in East Fertile Prairie. In 1896 Sam was married to Miss Jessie Howard. Sam and Jesse did a lot of farming and Jessie opened a store and sold wat kindle products.
They had three children there names where Howard, Forrest, and Grace. In 1910 they decided that they wanted to buy more land to farm. They were involved with Fallon County a lot. The Fallon County Times had a section of the paper just for the community of Fertile Prairie. In this society page there were frequent mentions of the Sam Duffield family. For example, there a dance that was held in Fertile Prairie and the people that helped were L Dean, C. Stewart, and S Duffield. They made $128 which helped them pay for the piano in the hall. On Saturday 27th 1919 Sam Duffield and six other women helped out at a supper.
Grace Duffield went to school in town with Walter Jenneses. There was a huge snow storm that hit in East Fertile Prairie which did some damage to there land. Grace Duffield got chicken pox and she was out of school for a couple of weeks. I chose this family because after I did some research on this family it seemed like a really interesting family. I also thought that I could get a lot of information on this family because they seemed really involved with Baker.
This picture is a picture of the Duffields house today.
