Local schools must provide English language assistance to all LEP students. State-approved delivery models for ESOL instruction are outlined in State Board of Education rule IDDG 160-4-5-.02 Language Assistance: Program for English Learners. A summary of the state-approved delivery models used in APS appears below. Choice of ESOL delivery model is at the discretion of the local school and will be determined by the needs of the ELs enrolled. Assistance is provided by the ESOL Office for determining the most appropriate models for instruction based on student needs.
*Schools using this model must obtain prior approval from Multilingual Services & Programs. For more information about innovative language assistance, please contact Dr. Margaret McKenzie, Director–Multilingual Services & Programs mamckenzie@atlanta.k12.ga.us .
