EL Eligibility/ELP Screener Date
The date of the English language proficiency screener is the testing date a student is screened for the ESOL program and is determined to be an English Learner student. Be sure this date matches the eligibility date in the EL tab in Infinite Campus.
Note: For transfer EL students, indicate the date the ELP Screener was administered in the transferring District. This is NOT the date the EL student enrolls in the APS ESOL Program.
ELP Screener Date Unavailable for Out-of-State or In-State Transfer EL Students
When APS is unable to determine with certainty the Date of ELP screener for Out-of-State or In- State transfer EL Students, the ESOL teacher will construct this date as follows:
Determine the school year for which you have the earliest ELP assessment results.
Use the first day of school for that school year, as the Date of ELP screener.
Date Entered US School
This field should reflect the student’s first date enrolled in a U.S. school starting with their first day of kindergarten or Pre-K, if enrolled in APS Pre-K. This field is directly linked to both immigrant funding and student achievement data reported for CCRPI (students who have been in U.S. schools fewer than three years are weighted differently).
2. Birth Place
This field will default to the United States. This field is directly linked to immigrant identification for State Reporting and for funding.
3. Home Language Survey Questions
These questions are embedded on the APS Enrollment form. Parents and guardians enrolling a child in APS must answer these questions in their entirety, regardless of the primary home language of the family or student.
● What language does your child best understand and speak?
● Which language does your child most frequently speak at home?
● Which language do adults in your home most frequently use when speaking to your child?
The answers to these questions must be entered in the “District Defined Elements” section of the student demographics page in Infinite Campus. This will then auto populate the “Home Primary Language Field”.
It should be noted that a parent or guardian may indicate more than one language in response to these questions. For example, a parent may indicate that a student’s language “Most Frequently Spoken” is English, while the language spoken “With Adults in the Home” is Arabic. Per the revised HLS requirements, if parents list English and another language(s), they must choose only one sentence that best describes their child's primary language. This field is captured in Infinite Campus.
4. Parent Preferred Language
The parent preferred language is a required field for State Reporting and must be entered in Households in Infinite Campus for each enrolling adult. This field is critical to assisting staff in securing language assistance for a parent.
5. ESOL Program Status
