I chose to make informational posters about ways to reduce the amount of money spent on heating in homes in Alaska. The reason I chose this project is because Alaskans spend hundreds of dollars a year on heating. I learned about heating systems in homes and the most effective methods, things that can be money drains in homes, and easy ways to significantly reduce your heating bills.
These solutions were:
Turn down your heat by 10 degrees.
Do not cover vents, fans, or air exchanges
Programmable Thermostats
Using insulation, air sealing, and other energy-efficient methods
Turn down your water temperature
There are so many affordable ways to conserve energy in your home, but these are the ones that I could find that were the easiest, most affordable, and most efficient. I got all of my information from REAP (Renewable Energy Alaska Project). The average Alaskan can spend anywhere from $1,500 to $2,400 on heating per year. Using these tips you can save up to 30% on that bill, cutting down hundreds of dollars on that bill.
