For my 2024 advocacy project I contacted a golf course and advocated a switch from gas powered carts to electric carts. Gas carts emit harmful pollutants into the air, which can negatively impact the environment and our health. While electric golf carts do not emit greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Surprisingly electric carts are less expensive to own and operate, charging is cheaper than gas, maintenance for electric carts are cheaper than gas. The only area where gas carts would be less expensive is storage for the carts. I contacted the golf course manager at Moose run golf course and expressed my concern. I asked him many questions including Why haven't we switched to electric golf carts? He replied by saying They take up a lot of space and creating that space would be challenging and lots of money would have to be spent. Also having to charge these carts constantly would obviously be more difficult than gassing up golf carts once a week or two. The main reason I found for there not to be a switch was the battery life of electric carts and the price of making a place to store and charge electric carts. I have learned that helping the environment takes an investment of money that most places aren't capable of spending.
