I embarked on the project of the over consumption of clothing because I love to thrift and I feel that social media has become a negative influence on consumers by encouraging them to buy “hauls” or the newest product. Walking around school and looking at everyone’s clothes quickly reminds you of clothing trends that the masses are following. While the consumption of clothing isn’t necessarily bad, social media and modern day consumerist mindsets are leading society down a dark path of over consumption in the fashion industry. This leads to multiple catashrophic events like habit destruction, aquatic and terrestrial pollution, and emission of green house gasses that leave lasting impacts on the Earth. After researching this topic and communicating with an expert in the field I have been able to consolidate this information into a flyer. Overall It is our jobs as consumers to reduce these effects, which is possible through simple changes.
