The goal of this project was to get my dad to quit smoking, after doing it for so many years. In this study I measured the air quality and particulate matter in the air when smoking a cigarette. The tests were done three times a day for five minutes, each an hour apart. These tests were done for one week measuring the air quality before a cigarette was smoked and during. When the cigarette was being smoked the air quality index would decrease from 92 to 44 after one cigarette. The particulate matter 2.5 would increase from 4ug to 2078ug while the cigarette was smoked. The results of this study show how harmful smoking tobacco can be for a person, the air, and the people around them. The tobacco smoke not only affects the health of a person, but the air quality around them and others. A possible solution to this problem is a quit tobacco program provided by the Southcentral Foundation.
