Weekly Happenings
It was our second full week! We are continuing to work on our stamina at lesson time, stations, and small group time. We have come so far in these 17 days!
On Monday we practiced and performed The Itsy Bitsy Spider:
In writing workshop we have continued to work on our illustrations. This week we learned that illustrators show motion through motion lines, illustrate the setting, fill in the entire page, and we finished the week with learning about adding details to clothing. For each craft we learn about, we read books illustrated by master illustrators as examples and to inspire us. On Friday we read and browsed books illustrated by Felicia Bond. She illustrates the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" books. We then practiced by drawing ourselves in the clothing we were wearing.
In math we are just beginning to work in small groups. We are learning how to come to the table for lesson and how we listen and work during that time.
During our calendar time, we have started to add the science of weather. We started learning about weather by writing down what we thought weather was.
In reading workshop we started to learn about monarch butterflies as we now have 4 monarch caterpillars in our care in the classroom! We've been reading some informational texts and learning about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. We also activated our prior knowledge with what we knew and worked on asking questions- all things great readers do!
Here are a couple of pictures from stations this week:
