This week I was not so great with getting photos. We were so focused on our small group and one on one learning times during our writing, reading, and math workshops! With our focus, we were able to meet with math and reading groups all week!
On Monday, we held our first Jet Pride assembly. Our focus was "Kindness". Each class shared about kindness and it will be our focus for the month of November. Our class decorated letters that spelled out KINDNESS and we wrote ways to be kind that started with each letter. Everyone did a great job standing in front of our school and holding their letter. As the year goes on we will work on our presentation skills and work towards being comfortable speaking in front of others.
In reading workshop this week, we started our book bags! We will always try to get book bags home each night (though sometimes we forget when our day gets busy). As I wrote in the letter that was in your child's book bag, we also don't always read each day as sometimes our literacy lessons are more involved.
In our drama station, we added "The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly".
We have continued to work on the story elements of characters, setting, and plot. This week we started to learn about theme and lessons that books can teach us.
It is exciting be working in math groups each day now! Our kindergartners are working on guided exploration of materials, writing numbers, and ways to make 5. In first grade we learned some fun games to play to help us learn our addition facts to 10, including how to write number expressions. We have also been reviewing number writing. In second grade we have been working on ways to make ten and working on the relationship between addition and subtraction.
